DJ Tips On Mixing – Where Can A Beginner Learn To Mix?
Posted by: | CommentsIts important when you start out to learn the skills as a DJ that you get as much help as
possible! Finding as many tips, tricks & methods as possible will help educate yourself as a
DJ. In this article we will talk about some of the DJ tips on mixing you need to understand
as a beginner DJ and find out where you can learn to mix.
So lets jump straight in on this... Where can a beginner learn to mix? Well there are a
number of places a beginner DJ can learn to mix. If your old enough to hit the clubs, you can
watch the DJ from a distance. This is always a good starting point as you get to see a DJ
perform in real time in front of an audience. So hitting the clubs and observing the DJ in
action is advised!
If you want to take the observation more seriously, you can get a job as a light jock in a
nightclub. Now granted the pay is pretty low, however a light jock is in the best position to
watch a DJ's success and failure at entertaining a dance floor. Getting a job as a light-jock
will also give you the opportunity to gain contacts with DJ's that visit the club. You may
also have the opportunity to practice Djing on the clubs sound system when the club is closed
during the off hours in the day time. This proves to be invaluable experience for your
learning curve.
You can also think about getting a job as a mobile DJ. You can join an agency and get work
through them. These companies are often eager to hire and train new and up and coming DJs.
Using this channel can be a wise move and if you choose to do this you will want to make sure
that the agency will invest in you and teach you how to mix!
Finally, I think one of the best ways to learn if you are completely on your own is to watch
short video instructions of someone that knows exactly what they are doing. A DJ that has
been in the game for a long time and knows the in's and out' of Mixing. Trying to read from a
book is never really much use as you need a good imagination to follow the text instructions.
With video you can watch and learn exactly what is being taught and its much easier to
follow.

The Best DJ?
Posted by: | CommentsIf you claim on being the best, you better back it.
When searching for a DJ online for your reception or event, you may see claims made by many DJ's.
Talk is cheap and in the mobile Disc Jockey industry DJ's can sure talk the talk, but can they walk the walk? I have seen all sorts of claims on brochures and websites, "The Best DJ Service", "50 years combined experience", "The Hottest DJ in Town", "Most Requested", and my personal favorite "Award Winning". After 20 years in the industry I have yet to see judges evaluating my performance or hear about it from other DJ's.
I have claims on my website yet I can back everything I say. But will these claims guarantee you will get a great performance from your DJ?
What can you do to ensure the DJ you hire will do an outstanding job for you on your special day?
The better professionals should provide you references from past clients. While they may perform well for most, do they perform and give 100% for all of their clients? Are there references they will not show you? So instead do not just ask for any references, ask for the names and emails of the last 10 clients. If the DJ claims to be that good the clients should not have a problem with you giving out their email to ask about their experience, and the DJ should be happy to accommodate.
If they can not do that for you, then ask for a 100% money back guarantee. Yes! you heard right, 100% of all your money back if you are not completely satisfied with their services. If the DJ ruins your reception or event that would be terrible, but at least you will receive all of your money back. If a DJ can back his or her claims it should not be a problem. With that kind of guarantee you can be sure your DJ will give you their best performance and full time attention.
I will put my money where my mouth is, I am confident enough to back my claims. Each prospective client that I meet with or contacts me can and will receive at least 12 names with emails of the very last events to contact. If they ask for a money back guarantee, they will get it. It will not hurt to ask, but do not expect to find many DJ's out there that will do this for you.
Beware of the low budget part-time DJ's making this claim. When they fail to deliver they can simply pay back the few hundred dollars and take no responsibility for the poor service delivered. With a day job to rely on there is not much to lose.
I am a single owner/operator that relies on word-of-mouth business. It is my name and reputation that is on the line for each event I do. I will always give you my every best, not just because I have to, but because I want to.
If a DJ claims to be the best, ask them to back it!
Essential DJ Equipment To Creating Great Beats And Tunes
Posted by: | CommentsWhether you aspire to be a disc jockey, just starting out as an amateur DJ or have the talent and desire to be a professional DJ ready to churn out a career in the world of music remixes, you need to have some knowledge of and experience in the basic DJ equipments. This is essential because these are the tools of the trade that will get you going in this world of mixing and matching beats and tunes.
There are a number of aspiring youngsters who want to start out as a DJ, but do not know enough about getting started and what to start with. For those who are serious about becoming a DJ, the first step is to invest in the basic but essential DJ equipments that you cannot do without, that being turntables, headphones, speakers and a DJ mixer. Of course, as you gain experience and popularity as a DJ, you can then upgrade to more sophisticated DJ equipments.
The most important DJ equipment for you to master is the turntable. For your first set of turntables it is always a good idea to start with a used version, or if you decide to purchase a new one, at least to purchase an inexpensive model. Getting to the level of spinning the turntable in front of a packed audience and wowing them with your great beat and music requires much work. In fact, to many beginners, that is a nerve-wracking prospect, as being great on the turntables requires a lot of practice and dedication. So start out amongst friends and friendly crowds before stepping up to bigger and less familiar audiences. Once you become quite good at it, you can start upgrading the turntable. The Technics 1200 or 1210 is a popular model to start with.
The next important item on the DJ equipment list is a good pair of headphones. According to the more experienced DJs, the Sony headphones make the best choice for beginners.
If you are on a tight budget, you can postpone your purchase of a DJ mixer as you can manage without one in the beginning. Once you have made a mark in this business and started making some money, then you can think about investing in a good DJ mixer.
In order to get started in any profession you have to make some investment and the DJ profession is no exception either. A beginner in this profession should expect to set a budget for basic DJ equipment purchase of approximately US$2,000, as a turntable sells for about $1500, and the mixer, headphone and speaker for about $100 each.
Wedding Party Dance Songs
Posted by: | CommentsThe wedding rings are on the fingers, the blessing speeches are done, and the cake is served - What after that? Yes, it's time to party! The dance party has to begin starting with the first dance of the bride and groom. At most of the receptions the DJ starts it core by playing romantic wedding music for the bride and groom and some all time favorite melody songs for the father-daughter and mother-son dances. And then, the rocking dance party begins.
So you might be thinking what kind of dance songs you should choose for your wedding celebration? If you have planned your wedding and chosen your DJ, here are a few awesome suggestions that will help you choose irresistible dance songs that will leave all of your guests landing on the dance floor.
Every wedding celebration one goes to, one always remembers the moments he/she enjoyed there. And the most important part of the entertainment is music. If the music is good and includes a variety of music for all generations, the guests will for sure enjoy the party.
The wedding crowd will always have people with different tastes and modes. So it's better to pick a variety of songs to accommodate different tastes.
The selection of wedding songs should avoid music with lyrics that may not be appreciated by guests that are conservative in nature. Broken heart songs, break up songs and ex relationship songs should be avoided in the wedding party. Fun songs are welcomed by most of the guests. After all it's a wedding party and it has to be filled with fun, excitement and entertainment at its best. Make a list of fun songs but make sure you leave most of the selections to your trained disc jockey. He will know how to "read the crowd." at the celebration.
Newer music and cheesy party songs can be played when the guests loosen up a bit. After all it's also enjoying to see people having fun on the dance floor after they have had a few. Don't worry if few of your songs are on the cheesy side. It's a wedding party and fun has to be a part of it!
Always include music that the older crowd can also enjoy. Play some old timer songs and see your aunts, uncles, grandma and grandpa rocking on the dance floor too.
Ask your DJ to entertain your guests to the fullest by playing a killer line up of songs and not to leave anyone out from having a great time.
Cheap DJ Equipment
Posted by: | CommentsWhen someone plans to be a DJ, one of the major stumbling blocks is the astoundingly steep price of the equipment. That said, DJ equipment is not one-piece equipment, but an assembly of several components. A DJ can mix and match components of different qualities and price ranges to make the entire outfit suit a budget.
The greatest margin on price can be made on the sound mixers. Sound mixers can have a great number of features; and so their prices may be as low as $200 and also as high as $2000. A DJ working within a limited budget can opt for a small mixer, which could easily be afforded at $200 to $500. These mixers can work just as fine as big ones and are ideal buys for amateur DJs. Even big names in the DJ equipment market such as Numark, Gemini, Aiwa, Akai, etc. produce such small economy speakers.
DJs that are keen on remixing their music opt for turntables instead of CD, DVD or MP3 players. Turntables are more expensive than players, but Gemini manufactures good quality affordable turntables within $400. Though direct drive turntables are a tad bit more expensive than belt driven ones, DJs prefer them as they play the record faster without any time lag.
Players are much more affordable than turntables; but they cannot provide features such as scratching and back-spinning of records. Players only provide sound output as it is on the CD or DVD and facilitate no scope for its alteration. DJs that just play original records go for players.
DJs trying to reduce their expenses on equipment can also shop around for speakers. The price of a speaker essentially depends upon its output. A low wattage speaker can be selected to save costs. There are small woofer-type speakers available that can output stereophonic sound and are available at prices at low as $20 apiece.
Another way to reduce expenses is to buy all equipment in bulk as a DJ package. A package contains the basic components and the necessary peripherals like headphones. Buying a package entitles a DJ to a discount. Packages are available generally for the mixers. In most cases headphones are given free with the package.
Using cheap equipment may take its toll on the music that a DJ provides; but DJs can make up for their equipment with their talent and creativity. Typically, the major buyers of cheap equipment are the amateur uncertain DJs who are still in the process of trying out the profession.
What Does it Take to Become a DJ?
Posted by: | CommentsA disk jockey career path can be both fun and challenging. The thrills of the job are apparent to most people. DJs get the chance to talk with celebrities and with the general public. They get the chance to entertain, to inform and to educate large segments of the population. It's the chance to let your unique personality shine for all to hear. A great DJ is a professional conversationalist, a dispenser of information, a communicator, and someone who can speak clearly and succinctly about a range of topics. It's someone who can build a rapport with celebrities and the general public. But most of all, becoming a DJ means being someone who works hard and loves what they do.
Personality is a DJ's calling card. A great DJ is talkative, friendly and trustworthy. Every DJ must be a bit of a performer and a professional. But no one is born a DJ, no matter how natural some may appear to be on the air. The DJ's on-air persona is one that's been developed and refined over years of practice and performance.
Having a successful disc jockey career also means being a professional and not letting the audience down. A DJ can't let a bad day affect their on-air routine. And it's also someone who won't let the solitude affect them. Many would be surprised, but despite their upbeat and chatty nature, most DJs describe isolation as one of the toughest parts of their job. Being alone in a booth, often at odd hours, can be tough. But all professional DJs learn to be comfortable with that occasional solitude.
And while a disc jockey career depends on winning personality that gains favor with an audience, there are plenty of other qualities just as important to success. We all know a great DJ is someone who can communicate, but many forget that communication is a two-way street. A DJ is not just a skilled orator, but also a good listener. A great DJ will listen closely to their audience and their guests and know and react accordingly. That's because a great DJ knows their audience. It's someone who knows what interests the audience and knows what the audience cares or doesn't care about. It's someone who cares about the community he or she serves.
And when becoming a DJ, one must know the personality and goals of his or her station and be able to accurately reflect them. As the public face (or more appropriately, the public voice) of the station, the DJ must know how to act, on air and off, in a way that reflects the values of their broadcaster. So having a good disc jockey career means one should be just as comfortable outside of the studio, meeting the audience face-to-face, as inside the studio behind the mic.
A great DJ is also quick-witted, it's someone who can think on their feet. The world of broadcasting is often fraught with last-minute changes and breaking news which means that the DJ often has to broadcast without a script. Winging it can be intense, but it can also be the most exciting part of the job. And it can make for memorable radio. But most of the time, the DJ must stick to a schedule. The DJ has to keep a close eye on the clock and know when a commercial is coming up or when an important interview will air. And let's kill an old stereotype right here: a DJ is not just some empty, talking head. DJs must know about radio production and editing. They must learn how to handle the high tech studio and computer equipment. They must know how to create recorded segments and promos, as well as outside-of-the-studio field recordings.
Landing a hosting gig on a radio show is usually the crowning achievement to becoming a DJ. And that's because it's something that doesn't happen overnight. It's only the result of years of training and experience-gathering. Starting a disc jockey career and getting those first broadcasting jobs can be tough. Getting experience is vital. Many start out as announcers at their schools, often on college radio stations, sometimes at school sports events. Others go to broadcasting schools, where they gain experience while learning the ropes of the broadcasting world. The best broadcasting schools offer extensive in-studio time. But whatever one decides, one must be in for plenty of challenges, hard work and life-changing experiences.

How to Buy a DJ Gift
Posted by: | CommentsThe gift giving season is here and if you have a DJ on your gift list you are faced with a daunting challenge: What kind of a gift can you get a DJ? Well, if you want to take the easy way out, you could always go with some cologne or maybe even a tie. DJs wear many ties.
If the DJ is a lady, candy, flowers and jewelry is always welcome.
But, c'mon. Can we get a little creative this year? How about something that a DJ would love to get? The problem is, unless you are a DJ yourself, you don't have a clue. And I know you're not a DJ, because 2 DJs never live together. (There is a one-DJ-per-household limit.)
So, with a little help from yours truly, let's get started.
First, there are quite a few stocking-stuffer-type gifts that all DJs need; even if they already have the item now. DJs need mic cords; lots of them. And, mic cords go bad. So you can never go wrong with a couple of medium quality mic cords. Other stocking-stuffer gifts include: gaffers tape (kind of like duct tape, but doesn't gum up the cords and equipment), blank CDRs, velcro cord tie-downs and gift certificates for music downloads.
If you want to get something a little more serious, you could always buy your DJ a spare mic (SM57 or 58 please), an equipment cart, or maybe a spare set of DJ headphones. Headphones are another item that go bad once a year, or so, due to wear and tear.
If you really want to go all out, pick him or her up a new pair of speakers... just make sure they are a significant upgrade from what he or she is currently using.
If you have someone who wants to be a DJ, but hasn't got off the ground yet, a pre-packaged system works pretty good. Although, usually nothing in a pre-packaged kit is extremely high quality, it's a good start. As the beginner moves up in the world, they can replace each item one-by-one with high quality DJ equipment. By then, they will have a better idea of what they want.
If you're still stuck, or need some ideas, be sure and check out my website. I suppose you could also just ask what they want, but there is something cool about having no idea that you are about to be blown away by an incredible gift.
It's a great time to buy because prices are low and deals abound. That means its a great time to give!
DJ Scratch Instructions – 3 Scratch Instructions
Posted by: | CommentsHello and welcome to this article on Dj scratch instructions. In this article we are going to
talk about 3 tips that will help you improve your scratch DJing skills. Scratch mixing has
become a defining sound of good DJ's from around the globe. There are many DJ's around the
globe that wish to learn the skills of scratching. Lets continue by explaining some tips you
can follow...
1. Chirp scratch instruction
The Chirp scratch sound is one of my favourite sounds to perform over a track whether it be a
hip-hop track or a breaks track. I think the sound is great! The Chirp scratch is one of the
easiest scratches to learn but probably one the most hardest scratches to actually master.
What you need to have is two turntables and a scratch mixer and a battle record. Start with
the crossfader open and the beginning of the sound on the record. What you need to do is push
the record with your finger tips and simultaneously close the fader. Then open the cross
fader and then pull back the record. Then you just keep with the rotation of that. Its best
to start off slow and then try to master it by doing it faster.
2. Stab scratch instruction
Again, to start out with the right equipment you need two turntables, left and right, a
scratch mixer and a battle record. This time start out with the beginning of the sound on the
record with the crossfader closed so you can't hear anything on the right turntable. You then
need to push forward and open the fader into the middle while simultaneously pushing the
record on the left turntable. As you push the record and make the sound you need to push the
fader back so you can pull back the record and start from the beginning.
3. Scribble scratch instruction
Again using the same equipment as above. The scribble entails leaving the crossfader open in
the middle and leaving it on and in the mean time you want to scratch a very small part of
the record as fast as you can. So you need to get your arm in a position so you can press
down on the record with your finger tips and kind of go into a spasm so to speak with your
arm so you can create very fast scratching sounds. Try it and give it ago!
I hope you have found this article to be somewhat informative for you on your quest for DJ scratch
instructions.

Learn To DJ Online – Learning From Video DJ Classes and Courses
Posted by: | CommentsWhen I first started DJing in Phoenix a few years ago, I was amazed by the difference between how easy it looks and hard it can be. Although I was being trained by a pro with more than 15 years of experience, it was so difficult to get the sound right.
With beat matching, tempo, cues, and all of the more advanced techniques, it feels like you could just drown in confusion before you really start to catch on. Now it doesn't take a lot of DJ skills to get out there and play a few top hits while fading from one to the next. Yup- we can all play a middle school dance after a few nights with our friends' decks.
But to me, it's so easy to see that what all of us DJ's really want is to get up in front of a large audience that knows good music and blow them away. To be respected in front of our peers (who know what good DJing sounds like) is a feeling that can't be beat. Except- when you get paid for it to.
In order to take yourself from playing school dances to doing clubs and getting your name out there, you need to practice. Like most things, DJing is going to take practice to get good and to become sensitive to the sound you are trying to exude. When I started learning, I got so frustrated at the speed I was improving before I got some video DJ courses. The video courses made all the difference.
With so many DJ's today moving to CD's, iPods, and software, the DJ that can get out and spin some vinyl is in higher demand than ever. You just cannot be the rich sound or vinyl or duplicate the effects that can be done on vinyl with a CD mixer or DJ Software.
Now, put simply, to be a DJ you are going to need:
1. Sound recordings in a DJ's preferred medium (vinyl, cd, or ipod)
2. A couple of sound devices, IE decks, cd players, ipods, or what have you. You need at least 2 so you can alternate back and forth.
3. A sound system for amplification or broadcasting of the recordings (e.g. portable audio system, PA system) or a radio broadcasting system.
4. A DJ mixer, an electronic two-channel mixer with a crossfader used to smoothly go from one song to another.
5. A microphone, so that the DJ can introduce songs and speak to the audience, and
6. headphones or a monitor speaker, which is used to listen to one recording while the other is playing, without outputting the sound to the audience.
But once you've got all six of those items in place, you have to learn how to use them correctly and with your own style. It's like making love: just because you have the right equipment doesn't mean you're done learning.
